What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)?
An AEP is an Allied Health Professional who is qualified to prescribe exercise as medicine for various illnesses, conditions or injuries. While other Allied health professionals may also treat various conditions and injuries, AEP’s are experts at providing individualised exercise programs, behavioural change techniques and education. An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is a university qualified individual who may be funded by Medicare, Private Health Insurance, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, NDIS and many more!
Assessment of Physical and Mental conditions
We go through personalised physical assessments to determine individual’s psychosocial, physiological and environmental health. This is beneficial for getting a snapshot of the client’s base-line fitness. We will also complete re-assessments to determine whether any change or improvement has occurred and furthermore, where and why it has occurred.
Prescription of Exercise Programs
We prescribe evidence-based exercise programs that allow people to recover joint mobility, improve physical and mental strength, reduce and manage chronic disease risk and improve chronic condition symptoms. Exercise programs may be based on a continued-care regime or a 10-12 week structured program all targeted at helping clients achieve their goals.
Health Education and Self-management
We work with clients to help them to understand what their condition or injury means, along with how they can help themselves to improve their health. It is an AEP’s responsibility to ensure the client is able to develop their own ways to participate in Physical Activity. Essentially we’re aiming to make sure our clients don’t come back!
